Checklist for data required to design a STP (Sewage Treatment Plant)

  • May 22, 2026

The following details are required prior to commencing the design of the plant:

  • Tender documents with all the corrigendum and files
  • Technology Provider Proposal: A comprehensive proposal from the technology provider must be submitted, including all pertinent design details. This is very important. Please note that the document currently lacks specifications for blower discharge pressure and RAS/WAS pump head, as well as an accurate calculation of the minimum sludge quantity.
  • Survey Requirements:
    • Contour mapping of the entire plant plot boundary, extending 50 metres on all four sides.
    • Ground level (GL) of the discharge pipeline.
    • High Flood Level (HFL) of both the plant location and the discharge point (these are separate items).
    • Invert level of the Main Pumping Station (MPS).
    • L Section of the ground level profile of discharge pipeline route as well as rising main
  • Geotechnical investigation: Please request the SBC testing provider to furnish a report with the following specifications:
    • Depth of investigation: 10 metres for all structures (except for MPS, which should be invert level minus 10 metres).
    • Required values for various foundations:
    • Continuous Strip Foundation at depths of 1, 1.5, 2.5, 3, and 3.5 metres; widths of 1, 1.5, 2, and 2.5 metres.
    • Isolated Footing at depths of 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, and 3 metres; widths of 1.2 x 1.2, 1.5 x 1.5, 2 x 2, and 2.5 x 2.5 metres.
    • Raft Foundation at depths of 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, and 3 metres; width greater than or equal to 6 metres.
    • Pile Foundation capacity for piles with diameters of 250, 300, 350, and 400 mm at depths of 3 and 4 metres.
  • Soil resistivity test for earthing design calculations

Disclaimer – This however is the most exhaustive list, based on new information received from after the survey & SBC, more information may be required to be collected at latter stage
